What is IATF 16949:2016?

IATF 16949:2016 is the automotive quality management system standard issued by the International Automotive Task Force. It cancelled and replaced ISO/TS 16949:2009; it is not an ISO Technical Specification. Used together with ISO 9001:2015, it adds automotive-sector and customer-specific requirements for eligible organizations in the automotive production and service-parts supply chain.

The IATF developed and maintains IATF 16949 while continuing liaison with ISO to support alignment with ISO 9001. Eligibility, customer-specific requirements, site scope, and the applicable IATF certification rules should be confirmed with an IATF-recognized certification body.
